Clear the Shelters

Animal shelters across the county teamed up with NBC and Telemundo stations to find loving homes for pets in need. Fees were waived at the third annual Clear the Shelters event, a nationwide pet adoption initiative with had local participation from San Diego Humane Society, Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego, San Diego House Rabbit Society and more.

Hornblower has offered this popular, pup-friendly Pet Day on San Diego Bay which consistently serves up a tail-wagging good time for seventeen years! Hornblower invites dogs to cruise for free with their owners. Pet Day on The Bay - the only pet-friendly event of its kind in Southern California hosts over 500 guests and their pets every year! Pet Day is also a towel and blanket drive and fundraiser benefiting the homeless animals of Helen Woodward Animal Center.

Canine environmental allergy and allergen specific immunotherapy (ASIT)

Atopic dermatitis (AD) or environmental allergy is a complicated disease which may often include a combination of genetic factors, environmental factors, skin immune dysfunction, diet and skin barrier dysfunction. AD is an over-reaction to typically innocuous environmental allergens such as pollens, molds, etc. Dogs absorb allergens across their skin. In dogs with concurrent skin barrier deficiencies, allergens penetrate deeper into the skin and are taken up by specialized immune cells. Allergy manifests itself in different ways, the most common being pruritus (itching). Signs of pruritus are scratching, licking, chewing, biting, and rubbing.

Four-legged friends received "spa treatments" from local groomers, sampled delicious treats, and learned pet-care tips from animal welfare organizations. Various rescue groups such as Second Chance Dog Rescue, FACE Foundation and more brought awareness to adopting your new best friend.

The Animal Pad hosted a fundraiser at a private home in Mission Hills to help fund a shelter where they can house the animals that truly need help. Guests enjoyed a Smooch Pooch theme with tacos and cerveza, silent auction and a kissing booth.
